Suriki Island
La Paz Department · Culture and history

On the small island of Suriki, in the Lago Menor, Aymara families have built totora reed boats for generations. Craftsmen from the island helped explorer Thor Heyerdahl build Ra II, which crossed the Atlantic in 1970. A small museum and workshops tell this remarkable story.
